10 Summer 2026 Fashion Predictions

Summer is one of the hardest seasons to style, since you can't lean on layers or heavier fabrics to do the heavy lifting. Every year I find myself reaching for the same trusted staples (linen, maxi dresses, flip-flops, you know the drill), but this summer I'm in the mood to shake things up a little.

My favorite thing about summer dressing has always been how effortless it feels. This is the season for tousled hair, barely-there makeup, and outfits that take five minutes to put together (but still look chic). From a lazy afternoon to a sunset dinner, summer styling is all about pieces that work as hard as you don't.

I've been doing a deep dive into the spring/summer 2026 shows and watching how the most stylish influencers are actually wearing these pieces in real life – and there's a lot to be excited about. Most of these trends are so versatile that they'll slot right into what you already own. Here are the trends worth knowing about this year.

1. Print: Polka Dots

Polka dots are an evergreen print for good reason, especially for summer. There's something about spots in the sun that just reads effortlessly chic, perfect for a Riviera energy (which is also trending for summer 2026… we’ll get there).

I love that polka dots can go a variety of ways, from elegant and luxurious to playful and feminine to clean and neutral. The polka dot has a reputation for being a little too sweet, but 2026's version is anything but. Designers are working with it in ways that feel elevated and confident, so whether you lean minimal or maximalist, the right spotted print will meet you where you are. Since this pattern’s timeless – and it’s likely sticking around into autumn/winter 2026 too –I’d definitely consider it a solid investment.

2. Texture: Mediterranean

Woven raffia, sun-bleached linen, terracotta leather, handmade-looking espadrilles… Mediterranean-inspired textures are having their moment this summer, bringing instant warmth to any outfit. These pieces look like they belong on a cobblestone street in Sicily or a rooftop terrace in Santorini. Tactile, earthy, and transportive, these textures work beautifully together and even better mixed with some of the other trends on this list (a camel linen dress with woven sandals, anyone?).

3. Texture #2: Sheer Pieces

Summer is the perfect time to get light and airy with your outfits. Enter: sheer pieces. This isn't underwear-as-outerwear; it's more about breathability, movement, and a little flirtation. Gauzy dresses, feather-light blouses, see-through skirts over a simple slip: these pieces are made for heatwaves, and once the temperature climbs, you'll be glad you have them. Try pairing a sheer statement skirt with casual thong sandals for an effortless finish.

4. Silhouette: 80s-Inspired

Strong shoulders are back, and this time they're paired with cinched waists and dramatic proportions that feel more "fun fashion" rather than "power dressing." The 80s revival has been bubbling under the surface for a couple of seasons now, but summer 2026 is when it really lands, in bold, punchy silhouettes that feel confident and unapologetically dramatic. The key to wearing this well is to commit to the shoulder and keep everything else simple. One statement silhouette per outfit, and you're done.

5. Hems: Romantic Bubble Hems

The bubble hem has returned, and this time it has a softer, more romantic energy than its early-2000s debut. Rather than the stiff, structured versions we've seen before, 2026's iteration feels more fluid and feminine. It adds a sense of movement and playfulness to an outfit, without demanding much from the rest of the look. We’re seeing bubble hems in midi skirts, mini dresses, and even wide-leg trousers. Try it with flat sandals and minimal jewelry, and let the hem do the talking.

6. Color: Red Shoes

This summer’s color is a bright cherry red, and we’re all about it. Red shoes are the mood-booster of 2026, brightening up monochrome outfits and giving even the simplest look a shining personality. From strappy sandals to slingbacks, pumps to peep-toes, a red shoe says you know how to have fun with getting dressed. Next time you're hovering between sensible black and a vibrant red, remember: everyone has black shoes. Not everyone has the confidence to go red.

7. Dresses: Camel Dresses

After years of white midis having all the fun in the sun, the camel dress is finally stepping into the spotlight for summer. Low effort, high impact… this is your "hot girl neutral" for 2026. Warm caramel tones pair beautifully with the summer sun. It’s a color that feels effortlessly polished, clean, and reminiscent of the perfect sun-kissed tan. Opt for an airy crochet, a crisp cotton, or even something in liquid silk.

8. Pants: Short-Shorts

Short shorts are a sure thing this summer. Gone are the longer Bermuda or mid-thigh styles – but not as short as the shorties of the early 2000s, either. Pair them with an oversized linen shirt and sandals for a model-off-duty look that looks like you tried without trying. Sometimes the classics just deliver, and short shorts are perennially, reliably summer.

9. Style: Peplum Pieces

You thought you’d seen the last of the peplum… but it’s back. But it’s not like the 2000s version you're picturing. This isn't about frilly tank tops or going-out tops with little hip ruffles. The 2026 peplum is sensual and feminine, showing up as a soft finish on pencil skirts, adding subtle volume to bandeau tops, and even softening the silhouette of a straight-leg jean. It's a small detail that creates a lot of shape. If you love a little drama in your dressing, this one is going to be your summer signature.

10. Jewelry: Large Pendants

We saw pendant necklaces in the fall, and they’re still going strong. Stone and drop pendants are still the accessory of choice for fashion insiders this summer, leaning bohemian and a little 70s, with long cords and chains finished in precious or semi-precious stones. These are like the mature follow-up to the 90s choker moment that recently came and went off the fashion scene.
