Happy Cinco de Mayo! I love this day for so many reasons, Mariachi’s, Margarita’s, Tacos, Tamales, Guacamole, Chips & Salsa! Any reason to celebrate with family and friends to have a good time is alright with me. My husband and I usually hit up one of our two favorite local Mexican joints Lauriol Plaza in D.C. or El Paso Cafe in Arlington. On this popular holiday the wait is very long for a table at both locations. It usually doesn’t matter because we have lots of catching up to do at the bar to pass the time!
History lesson before fashion. Cinco de Mayo is a holiday that celebrates the date of the Mexican army’s 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War. My father is Mexican and he frequently reminds me that in Mexico Cinco de Mayo is a minor holiday. I love that fact that here in United States Cinco de Mayo has evolved into a commemoration of Mexican culture and heritage. So for that reason, I am all about it and today I am embracing the day!
I was on the hunt for a dress that was colorful and fun. Mara Hoffman came to my mind quickly as she is known for her prints and punchy colors. This is a great day to go for bold color and festive style. I paired it with a hot pink Rebecca Minkoff crossbody. She is another designer that loves to play with color so this was a great pairing in my opinion. The platform wedges are Kate Spade and the straps are a rainbow of colors which I LOVE. These Kate Spade wedges will go with just about anything!
