To help you out, I sat down and sorted through it all. I scoured the runways, racks, and social media feeds to find the eight skirt trends especially hot for 2026. I also have tips about who these skirts are best for and if it’s actually worth spending your money on. So let’s get into it! 

1. Lace Trimmed Skirts

Lace-trimmed skirts were everywhere in 2025, and they’re not going anywhere in 2026. Designers keep finding new, chicer ways to do them. A little strip of lace along the hemline sounds small, but it completely changes the feel of an outfit. I love this trend because it makes everything feel more purposeful and considered, without even trying.

Who It’s For: Almost everyone. This is one of those rare trends that plays nicely with so many different aesthetics: romantic and feminine, cottagecore, classic, preppy, and even a little rocker. This versatility and trendiness make it a smart buy, especially if you can find a quality skirt on consignment.

2. Knee-Length Skirts

The knee-length skirt is the hot girl piece of the moment right now. It has a very ‘90s, tailored, cool-girl thing going on, while also feeling polished and a little vintage. A slip skirt in a cheap fabric just won’t fit right. This is one to spend a little more on, and you can feel good it’ll be a solid piece in your wardrobe for seasons to come. 

4. Maximalist Skirts

I’m loving the fact that fun skirts are trending right now. We’re talking feathers, fringe, sequins – aka peak dopamine dressing. One playful piece, like a textured or colorful skirt, can carry an outfit on its back. When styling, keep your top simple so the skirt can do its thing. Bold colors, wild prints, unexpected fabrics – in whatever silhouette works for your body. Just have fun with it! In this case, more is more. 

Who It’s For: Anyone who wants to inject a little joy into their wardrobe. This trend is so open-ended you can take it in any direction that excites you. 

5. Leather Skirts

A good leather skirt is forever, and the styles coming out this season are some of the best I’ve seen in years: pencil shapes, croc embossing, and stunning colors beyond the basic black. There’s a lot to love right now if leather is something you’ve been wanting to try. 

Who It’s For: This one is a little more dependent on the rest of your wardrobe. The right leather skirt can work beautifully for so many types of aesthetics, from rocker-chic to classic professional. My advice: if you find a leather skirt that genuinely makes you feel good when you put it on, it’s worth the investment. 

6. Denim Skirts

Like leather, denim skirts are a classic for a reason. And you can really make this trend your own based on the wash, cut, length, and silhouette you choose. One thing worth noting is that the longer maxi denim is everywhere right now, but it’s a divisive cut. If you’re building a wardrobe with longevity in mind, a more versatile length that suits your body type is the smarter buy than diving into maxi denim.

Who It’s For: Almost anyone can make a denim skirt work with the right silhouette and wash. Just make sure you go for a length that actually suits your body, style, and closet, rather than defaulting to the trends you’re seeing at the moment.

And I love that there are a lot of ways to play with this style, even with the pieces you already have in your own closet. You could try a longer lace skirt peeking out from a shorter one on top, or add a long sheer overlay over a mini skirt. 

Who It’s For: This one is riffing on the early 2000s double-tee energy, which is having a cultural resurgence right now. If you like this trend, try it! I’ll be honest, though, I’m not sure this one has a super long shelf life. More of a fun trend than a forever piece. 

8. Drop Waist and Pleated Skirts

The drop waist and pleated skirt have already taken over the bridal world in a big way, and this look is starting to cross over into everyday wardrobes too. Pleats add movement and femininity, and the drop waist creates a relaxed, romantic proportion that photographs stunningly. 

Who It’s For: I think pleats are for everyone; they give a delicate femininity that feels fresh right now. But the drop waist is not a one-size-fits-all silhouette. That said, when it works, it really works. It’s especially great for accentuating curves. If the proportions suit you, this is a favorite worth investing in.
